Ingredients

For the Oats
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats Avoid quick or steel-cut oats for best results.
  • 1 cup milk Use your favorite dairy or plant-based milk.
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt Substitute with dairy-free yogurt for a vegan option.
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds Can be omitted for a lighter consistency.
For the Flavor
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder High-quality cocoa ensures best taste.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract No substitutions recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey Agave syrup is a fantastic vegan alternative.
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate (melted) Choose quality dark chocolate for optimal flavor.
For the Texture
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips Feel free to swap with white chocolate.
  • melted chocolate for drizzling Optional, can be skipped for fewer calories.
  • extra chocolate chips for topping Optional, crushed nuts can be a crunchy substitute.
  • cocoa powder for dusting Optional, for visual appeal.

Equipment

  • microwave-safe bowl
  • mason jar or airtight container
  • spoon or small whisk

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by melting the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until smooth and glossy, which should take about 1 to 2 minutes. Allow the melted chocolate to cool slightly.
  2. In a mason jar or an airtight container, add the old-fashioned oats, milk, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, unsweetened cocoa powder, pure vanilla extract, and your choice of maple syrup or honey. Mix these ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Pour the cooled melted chocolate into the mixture and stir again until everything is evenly distributed. Ensure there are no lumps.
  4. Gently fold in the semisweet chocolate chips, distributing them throughout the mixture.
  5. Seal the jar tightly and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours, but ideally overnight.
  6. When you’re ready to enjoy, take them out of the fridge and give them a good stir. Drizzle extra melted chocolate or sprinkle more chocolate chips for indulgence.
