Method
 

Preparing the Squares
  1. Combine all-purpose flour, softened unsalted butter, and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until texture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into the bottom of a greased baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes until lightly golden. Cool completely.
  2. In a medium saucepan, mix whole milk, granulated sugar, and egg yolks until well combined. Heat over low, stirring continuously for about 10-15 minutes until thickened to custard consistency. Avoid boiling.
  3. Pour the thickened custard over the cooled crust, spreading evenly. Refrigerate for 2–3 hours to set.
  4. Dust with powdered sugar and cut into squares for serving, optionally garnishing with fresh fruit.
