Preparing the Squares
- Combine all-purpose flour, softened unsalted butter, and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until texture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into the bottom of a greased baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes until lightly golden. Cool completely.
- In a medium saucepan, mix whole milk, granulated sugar, and egg yolks until well combined. Heat over low, stirring continuously for about 10-15 minutes until thickened to custard consistency. Avoid boiling.
- Pour the thickened custard over the cooled crust, spreading evenly. Refrigerate for 2–3 hours to set.
- Dust with powdered sugar and cut into squares for serving, optionally garnishing with fresh fruit.
