Ingredients

For the Tea Base
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 4 bags black tea Can substitute with green or herbal tea
For the Sweetness
  • 3/4 to 1 cup raw honey Can substitute with agave nectar
For the Zest
  • 2 whole lemons Can substitute with limes or grapefruits

Equipment

  • Medium-sized pot
  • large pitcher

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by bringing 4 cups of filtered water to a rolling boil in a medium-sized pot. Once it reaches a boil, promptly remove it from the heat.
  2. Add 4 black tea bags to the hot water before whisking in 3/4 to 1 cup of raw honey, depending on your desired sweetness. Stir gently until the honey dissolves.
  3. After the tea has steeped and cooled, take 2 whole lemons and squeeze their juice into the mixture, catching any seeds.
  4. Carefully discard the tea bags from the pot, and if you’ve zested the lemons beforehand, remove that as well.
  5. Strain the tea mixture into a large pitcher, which will catch any remaining lemon pulp or tea fragments. Fill the pitcher with ice to chill the tea rapidly.
  6. Place the pitcher of homemade iced tea in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
  7. When ready to serve, pour the iced tea into glasses filled with ice cubes and garnish each glass with lemon slices or fresh mint leaves.
