For the Treats
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter Feel free to swap with margarine for dairy-free.
  • 2 cups Mini Marshmallows Regular marshmallows can also be used.
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal Any similar puffed cereal can be used.
For the Color
  • 1 teaspoon Blue Gel Food Coloring Optional, can skip for simplicity.
  • 1 teaspoon Red Gel Food Coloring Similar substitution options apply here.
For Garnish
  • 1 cup Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles Optional for decoration.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Grease an 8” x 8” casserole dish with cooking oil or butter.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 teaspoon of butter with 2 cups of mini marshmallows for about 40 seconds. Stir until melted.
  3. Add blue gel food coloring until desired shade, then mix in 2 cups of Rice Krispies. Press into the greased dish to form a layer.
  4. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter with remaining marshmallows as before, cover the blue layer with white layer.
  5. For the red layer, melt 1 teaspoon of butter with 2 cups of marshmallows, mix in red gel food coloring and Rice Krispies.
  6. Press the red mixture on top of the white layer and sprinkle with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
  7. Let cool for 30 minutes, then slice into squares.
